Marc Davis

Marc Davis 1913-2000

If you know the Walt Disney characters: "Tinker Bell", ‘’Snow White" "Cruella De Vil" and the wicked fairy "Maleficent" in Sleeping Beauty, then you are already familiar with some of the wonderful artwork by Marc Davis.

Marc Davis was born on March 30th 1913 in Bakersfield California. He studied at the Kansas City Art institute, the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the Otis Art Institute at the Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles. In the 1930’s Marc Davis was one of the "nine old men" Walt Disney chose to develop the new art of animation. Disney borrowed the phrase "nine old men" from a description of the nine U.S. Supreme Court Justices. After a basic training period at the Disney Studios, and because of his skill in the anatomy of the human figure, Davis was promoted to assistant animator on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs where Davis helped create "Snow White."

The following are all available as limited edition, signed and numbered giclees.

Less well known but equally impressive are Marc Davis’ paintings, watercolors and drawings of bulls and bullfighters, nudes and harlequins and the warriors and jungle life of Papua, New Guinea.
